You, Mia. “Go Bokito.”

“Go Bokito” is about Bokito the Gorilla who escaped his enclosure in Diergaarde Blijdorp and attacked a woman in 2007. The poem portrays Bokito as a Dutch immigrant by relating his behaviour to typical Dutch values that are central in civic integration examinations. Through the focus on the captive/escaping animal as immigrant the poem provides valuable insight into the complexity of human/animal migration, fear, and freedom.
