Reading Zoos in the Age of the Anthropocene

Keulartz, Jozef. “Captivity for Conservation? Zoos at a Crossroads.”

Keulartz analyses the current need for a new zoo paradigm which he calls the integrated approach. This paradigm aims to create a morally acceptable balance between animal welfare and species conservation and seeks to transform the zoo primarily into a conservation center. His focus on how this approach would affect zoo-policies around education and animal collections  and its implementation demonstrates how zoos in the Anthropocene could become important spaces for conservation.
